About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to establish and shape the HR function within a growing South Island business, partnering with leaders while driving both strategic and operational HR initiatives.
As the sole HR professional, you'll take ownership of the full employee lifecycle while developing the systems, processes, and people initiatives that support long-term growth. Working closely with tradespeople, apprentices, frontline leaders, and senior management, you'll be a trusted advisor across all areas of HR.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of autonomy, suited to someone who enjoys creating structure, building capability, and making a genuine impact across a business.
Key Responsibilities
· Own the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management and offboarding
· Lead recruitment across trade, operational and professional roles, managing agency and labour hire relationships
· Support workplace health and safety activities, training requirements, and incident management
· Provide advice and support on employee relations, performance, conduct and people matters
· Manage employee records, employment agreements and HR administration
· Develop and improve HR policies, procedures, systems and processes
· Coordinate training, certifications, workforce planning and retention initiatives
About You
We're looking for a confident and approachable HR professional who enjoys building strong relationships and providing practical, commercially focused advice.
· Previous experience in a HR Business Partner or Senior HR Advisor position
· Strong knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
· Excellent stakeholder management and coaching skills
· Experience within construction, manufacturing, or another operational environment will be highly regarded
