The Company
Our client is an established New Zealand main contractor delivering commercial construction projects across a range of sectors.
With a strong presence in the South Island, the business has a solid pipeline of work across Canterbury and surrounding regions. Projects are varied and include seismic strengthening, complex refurbishment, new build commercial construction and technically challenging upgrade works.
A significant proportion of their work comes from long-standing and repeat clients, with a strong emphasis on quality of delivery and building strong relationships across the industry.
The Position
Based in Christchurch and reporting to the South Island Division Manager, you will take responsibility for construction delivery across the region, overseeing projects ranging from $500k to $20m.
You will manage and support a team of Project Managers, Senior Site Managers, Site Managers and Site Supervisors, typically overseeing 3–6 live projects at any one time.
The role will see you maintain oversight of project performance, programmes and delivery while ensuring potential issues are identified and addressed early. You’ll work closely with clients, consultants and subcontractors and ensure standards across health & safety, quality and workmanship are maintained.
You’ll also provide construction input during pre-construction, including methodology, programming and estimating support.
The position is Christchurch based, with some travel throughout the South Island required to oversee projects as needed.
Skills & Experience Required
- 15+ years’ construction experience, including time at Senior PM or Construction Manager level
- Strong NZ commercial construction experience, with proven delivery of projects up to $20m
- Good knowledge of the Canterbury market, subcontractors and suppliers
- Strong leadership, programming and contractual knowledge, including EOTs
- Proven ability to manage clients, consultants and multiple project teams
