About the Role:
  • Join Tech 5 and get assigned to work with a well-established, award-winning civil construction firm with a strong regional presence and a proven track record in roading maintenance.
  • Work alongside a supportive team of positive people, operating well-maintained machinery and upholding excellent health and safety standards.
  • Contribute to maintenance and improvement of the roading network across the Top of the South, supporting government investment in critical infrastructure.
  • Flexible casual engagement aligned with current (very large!) workload

What You’ll Do:
  • Assist with day‑to‑day site activities: material delivery, loading/unloading, site housekeeping, and aiding crew with tasks as required like digging, raking, spotting for vehicles, and more.
  • Operate light trucks and assist with traffic management and temporary works where qualified and trained.
  • Drive and position vehicles and trailers as needed, maintaining safe loading practices and securement of loads.
  • Read site plans, risk assessments, and traffic management plans; communicate effectively with crew and supervisors.
  • Conduct basic equipment checks on the vehicle you operate and assist with basic maintenance tasks under supervision.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, promote safe work practices, and contribute to a positive safety culture.

What We’re Looking For:
  • Current full Class 2 truck licence (NZ) with a clean driving record and demonstrated responsible, safe driving.
  • Willingness to perform physical, hands-on labour and to assist with a range of tasks on civil sites.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work in varying weather conditions, and adapt to changing priorities on site.
  • Basic understanding of site safety and traffic management is helpful; training can be provided for specific site requirements.

Nice-to-Haves (not essential, but will help you with a higher rate):
  • Experience supporting civil construction or road maintenance teams.
  • Tickets or certifications related to civil construction or traffic management.
  • A valid driver’s licence beyond Class 2 (e.g., Class 1) and readiness to drive company vehicles as part of the role.

If You Don’t Have Additional Tickets Yet:
  • If you have a full Class 2 licence and the motivation to work in civil construction, we encourage you to apply. We’re open to helping you and look for pathways and opportunities to develop your skills on real projects with a supportive team.

What We Offer:
  • A positive, team-focused work environment with well-maintained equipment and strong positive leadership.
  • Competitive rates with potential for longer-term opportunities as workload and client requirements evolve.
  • Access to support and training to hone and further your skills from us and on our client’s sites.
  • The chance to contribute to critical roading maintenance projects funded by local and central government.

How to Apply:
  • Please submit your resume detailing your work and driving experience, and any relevant site exposure.
  • Include a brief note about your availability, current location in the Top of the South, and why you’re excited about contributing to roading maintenance.

We’re an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. If you’re ready to bring your dedication, teamwork, and safety-first attitude to us and our selection of well-respected civil construction clients, we’d love to hear from you.
The ball is in your court. We want to represent you and help you achieve your career goals. You could be a Labourer wanting to become an Operator, or an Operator wanting to become a Foreman. We want to hear where you’ve come from and where you are headed.
