October update from Brett Bothma. Brett is training to compete in an Ironman competition to raise money for Cure Kids.
If you don’t know what an Ironman is it’s a 3.8km swim, 180km bike and 42.2km run all in one day! The half Ironman is half the distance.
Here is an update from Brett on how the preparation is going for Ironman New Zealand 2017 competition in Taupo.
As some of you know I am raising money for Cure Kids. Thank you for the donations so far, every bit counts. You can donate here.
Finally we seem to have come out of winter here in the South Island and I have managed to start cycling on the road again after doing many hours on an indoor trainer!
I was able to spend time running in the cold where some mornings and nights my sweat formed icicles on my beany and shirt. I am sure you remember the scene from Dumb and Dumber!!
I am now swimming up to 100 lengths per session in the pool in preparation for some lake swimming in November. Swimming is still the toughest of the 3 disciplines but I must say it’s getting easier. This will however help in my preparation for the Half Ironman in Taupo on the 10thDecember.
Having only 8 weeks to go until the Half Ironman the excitement and anticipation is building!
I ran my first half marathon this weekend and then topped that off with a road race on the bike at Aoraki Mount Cook.
Please visit my page and make a donation. It’s for a great cause. More updates soon.
